#1 I love my glass jars. They either sit on my kitchen island or behind my sink, but they are always filled with something fun. As you can see I rotate items for different occasions. Right now I have Halloween candy.
Last year my glass jars held skulls, bloody eyeballs, black licorice and a brain.
#2 My home/family wall. When we moved in I started unpacking and realized I had a lot of signs that looked very similar. For a long time I had them spread throughout the house until one day, I had a vision. There is a little area above our lockers in our mud room that was just the perfect size for my collection. I loved the outcome.
#3 This one also came to me in a vision (just one of those crafty ideas that pops into my mind on occassion) It is my magnetic white board calendar. The best part of this is its hugeness. It is 4'x6' and hangs in my laundry room. Each days' square is 8"x 8" and easily holds party invites, appointment cards and flyers. I made it by myself which makes it even more fun for me.
#5 My black and white wing chairs. I bought these beauties on a girls trip to Seattle. It is hard for me to invision what a completed chair will look like when I only have a 3" square of fabric. So if I see something finished and I love it, I have to have it, so was the case with these. I said in an earlier post that one of my quirks is that I have big purchase commitment fear well, these two furniture pieces were an exception to that. I have never had any buyers remorse for these or the houndstooth chairs.
#6 I am a sucker for tulips. I lived in Holland for 18 months and I think my love of tulips stems from that. I found these pots a Target a couple of years ago and splurged to buy all three at once. I was worried if I only bought one and went back for a second they would be gone. They sit on my black entry table and are a pleasure to set out in March when we are ready for spring to arrive.
#7 Tulips Again. These were a birthday gift from my Mom a few years ago. They are huge. The first picture is actually in our old house, but it gives you an idea of the size. I would have taken a picture of both of them where they are now, but they hang in my dining room and it is now emmie cakes central and I would be embarrassed to take a picture of that right at the moment.
#8 My pottery barn bedding. This was something that I waited a long time for. I love the red and tan with my brown walls. The thing I love most about this picture is that my bed is actually made. It doesn't happen often because even if I take the time to make it in the morning, my kids think it is funny to mess it up as soon as I do. I spend more time yelling at them than it is worth having my bed made, so now I just don't do it unless I am home alone.
#9 The faucet in my kids bathroom. We chose this not knowing if we would like it, but we thought it was a good choice, because they wouldn't have to turn two handles to get the right temp. The water comes out like a waterfall. I am absolutely pleased with our choice.
#10 It was a toss up so you're actually getting 11 favorite things. I love my big black front door. It is bigger that your normal size entry door. When we first bought our house it had been sitting all summer unstained and I told them I wanted it black and shortly thereafter the wood started to warp. We had to completely replace the door. Everyone tried to talk me out of the black again to avoid another problem, but I would not give in. So here stands my big black door and I love it!
#10 1/2 The picture of the San Diego temple that hangs above our piano. I grew up in San Diego and was married here so it has very special meaning to me. I saw this in a store and immediately came home and told Justin I wanted it for Christmas. Much to my surprise (since I usually don't get what I ask for) there is was Christmas Morning. I should have taken a picture of the piano too so you could see how well it fits here, but is about the same width as our piano and the frame is black like our piano so it really looks amazing.
You have such a beautiful home! I love all of your black accents and especially the word wall! :)

ReplyDeleteso I love all those things. I have glass jars too, they are a perfect accent at any time. I NEED a LARGE board like you have. I want some nice cute covered fabric chairs, but know the kids will just stain them so I am waiting till they are a little older. And I LOVE the temple picture. I have never seen one like that. Now I feel the need to go and do more with the house today :)
ReplyDeleteI like all your favories - however, I absolutely love your family/home wall. That was an ingenious idea! And I love your wall calendar, too. We're in the middle of a remodel project and I have to find a new space for my bulletin board - so I think I might borrow your idea and combine everything into one board. Love it!
